May 23 - 2013 Stand Up and Sing for Kids


When: Thursday, May 23, 2013 6PM
Where: High Noon Saloon
Details: Dane County CASA presents “2013 Stand Up – and sing -- For Kids” featuring Madison’s own legendary live karaoke band, the Gomers, hosting Rockstar Gomeroke, with local celebrity and audience performances.   Stand Up – and sing – For Kids will take place on Thursday, May 23rd at the High Noon Saloon in Madison, WI. 
 
Stand Up – and sing --  for Kids will feature two sets of “Rockstar Gomeroke” hosted by the Gomers.  The first set will include local celebrity singing performances by:
 
  • Former Mayor Dave Cieslewicz
  • Jonathan Suttin of 105.5 MMM’s Jonathan and Kitty in the Morning
  • NBC15 Morning Show Anchor Tim Elliot
  • Mahlon Mitchell (President of the Professional Firefighters Association of Wisconsin)
  • Majestic Theater owner Matt Gerding
  • Local theater talent Theola Carter
  • Bridget Schwefel (“Eponine” in the Four Seasons Theatre Company’s performance of Les Miserables) 
  • And more!
 
The second set will be for audience participant singers, who will be able to put their name in a raffle for the chance to sing with the Gomers.
 
News Anchor Christine Bellport of NBC15 will be the evening’s emcee, and Madison’s Atlas Improv Group will provide an opening comedy performance. 
 
What makes this evening of top-notch entertainment more special is the fact that all proceeds from the event will be used by CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) to benefit abused and neglected children in our community.  CASA provides individualized support to children under the protection of the Dane County court system. CASA’s volunteer advocates work to achieve safety, permanency and well-being for these kids by advocating for their best interests in the courts and community.
 
Doors for the event will open at 6pm with entertainment beginning at 6:30pm.  In addition to the show, and included in the ticket price, the event will also feature a silent auction, and a  decadent dessert buffet featuring items and treats donated from local and regional businesses.  Glass Nickel Pizza will be available for sale at the event.
 
Tickets for “2013 Stand Up For Kids!” featuring Rock Star Gomeroke and the Atlas Improv Group are only $15 each and may be purchased at the High Noon Saloon or online at http://www.high-noon.com/.  Tickets will be on sale the night of the event at the High Noon Saloon, if they are not sold out by then!

May 25th - Tournament Of Destruction at Jefferson Speedway

June 1st - Cars On State

What: Check out the classic cars and custom and classic motorcycles on display on State Street from the State Capitol to Library Mall.

Cars to be featured this year include a 1926 Ford Lincoln (purchased by the owner's grandfather from Weber Motor Co. in Milwaukee) , 1928 2-door Ford Roadster, a 1928 Packard 4 door sedan, 1941 Zephyr Convertible (which has crossed the Atlantic Ocean twice), 1958 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, 1966 ¾-ton GMC Fleetside pickup passed down from the owner's grandfather, a 1966 Volkswagen Bus with camper interior, 1968 Pontiac GTO, a 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda, a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am ("all original, not restored"), and a 1979 Volkswagen Bug convertible ("last year made").

June 8th - Sun Prairie's Taste Of The Arts Fair

June 22nd - Honor Ride Madison


When: Saturday, June 22nd, 8am
Where: Saris Cycling Group, 5253 Verona Road, Madison, 53711
What: Honor Rides are one day non-competitive, self paced rides that allow the general public to ride alongside healing heroes.  All of the funds raised through the Honor Ride Program support rehabilitation programs at VA Hospitals and Military bases throughout the country (project Hero). There are 18 Honor Rides in the US this year. 

Honor Ride Madison will take place on June 22nd.  There are three distances on the Honor Ride Madison: 12, 35 and 70 Cost is $75 per individual rider and $60 per rider for teams of 5 or more.  Families with 2 adults and children (no limit on children) is $125.  No cost for injured veterans.  Sign-up at active.com.  Look for Honor Ride Madison. Participants are free; $15 for adults not participating in the ride and kids under 10 are free.Proceeds benefit Ride2Recovery, a national non-profit organization working directly with soldiers returning from Iraq & Afghanistan who have sustained mental and physical injury while serving their country. Ride2Recovery uses the sport of cycling to help facilitate mental and physical rehabilitation for our nation's healing heroes.
