If there was someone that was close to a real zen master still around today, it would have been David Carradine.
By now you've heard that the star of the Kill Bill films and the 70s TV series Kung Fu, was found dead in Thailand yesterday. He was in Thailand shooting an upcoming film titled Stretch.
At first they thought it was suicide, but the latest says it could be something closer to an accident. Last night on Larry King, Carradine's manager wondered if foul play was involved. (hmmmm...the Deadly Viper Assasination Squad?)
He had been in more than 100 films and TV dramas over his career. Most know him best for his work in Quentin Tarantino’s "Kill Bill" series. Recently, Carradine played a kung fu master in a the Jonas Bros. “Burnin’ Up” music video.
His family had some serious star power. His father was John Carradine, a well-known Hollywood character actor. His brother are Keith Carradine (Dexter) and Robert Carradine (the Revenge of the Nerds movies). Even his neice, Martha Plimpton was "Stef" in The Goonies.
That all just goes to show, the performance gene must have been in his blood.
Here's the weird thing about this all. The first impression is not to good when you say an actor was found hanging naked in a Thailand hotel closet. I have to wonder if that's the full story. The truth is we may never know, but hopefully he'll be remembered for what he did while he was alive and not how he died.
