The Brain Strain

You should see the sparks fly

from my knife and fork!

This is Restaurant Week in Madison.  I’m a foodie.  I love this.  And upfront will tell you that I was given, by WOLX, a gift certificate to go to one of the featured restaurants this week.  By week’s end, I’ll tell you all the restaurants I’ve been to and what I ate, etc, but doubt I’ll let you know which one I didn’t get a bill for at the end of the night, as opposed to all the others where I spent my hard earned money….ok, not so hard earned.

Monday night my wife Lisa and I went to La Brioche True Food on University Ave.  Although it’s in a strip mall, once you enter you’ll immediately forget that. It’s tastefully decorated.  The seating is either tapestry covered love seats, or wingback chairs.  And you’ll see the partly open kitchen so you can watch what’s going on, but not see too much.  The menu is creative, using seasonal ingredients.  Local and Organic too.  First course, winter vegetables.  And sweet potato soup.  Both delicious.    So was the good fresh house made bread.  Second course, and we didn’t order the same thing, that way you get to sample twice as many selections.  Organic Pork Braciola.  Organic Beef Brisket.  Both dishes flavourful and nicely presented.  And good sized portions so that you don’t go home feeling stuffed.  Especially after the Third course of Spiced fig and Goat Cheese cake and Chocolate Ganache Torte.  The service is friendly and attentive.  (thanks Heather)  To sum it up, We’d go back.  Which I guess is the purpose of Restaurant Week.  We learned of and liked a restaurant we’d never been to before.

Now onto Tuesday’s lunch restaurant.  Bluephies on Monroe Street.
